Last week (27th of February, 2020), the AFCEA Europe Artificial Intelligence workshop in Brussels took place in cooperation with the NATO Command & Control, Centre of Excellence (NATO C2COE). The director of the NATO C2COE, Colonel Robert Meeuwsen, joined this workshop in Brussels as a keynote speaker and panelist. This iteration of the AFCEA workshop focused on restructuring decision-making processes in hierarchical organisations, such as the military, in the light of artificial intelligence and machine learning which will reach new dimensions in the near future.
The traditional C2 philosophy is increasingly under pressure due to remarkable changes in the existing balance between centralised computing power (cloud) vs. computing at the edge (smart phones).
“I very much welcome this debate as AFCEA discusses how we can leverage emerging Quantum computing and Artificial Intelligence in order to solve 21st century challenges. These technologies have the potential to enhance how NATO provides collective deterrence and defence in today’s dynamic and interconnected world.”
General Markus Kneip, DEU A, Chief of Staff SHAPE
