What exactly is a NATO Centre of Excellence, and why do these organizations play such an important role in strengthening the Alliance?

In this episode of The Transformation Brief hosted by NATO Allied Command Transformation, Rasa Pazarauskiene, NATO Officer for COE Establishment and Accreditation, talks to us about the network of 30 NATO-accredited Centres of Excellence and how they contribute to transformation across the Alliance.

From cyber defence and military medicine to strategic communications, energy security, space and cold weather operations, the Centres of Excellence bring together expertise from Allies and partners to develop doctrine, improve interoperability, support experimentation and prepare NATO for future security challenges.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • What a NATO Centre of Excellence is—and what it isn’t.
  • Why the Centres are accredited by NATO but remain outside the NATO Command Structure.
  • How the multinational, nationally funded model benefits the Alliance.
  • How ACT works with the Centres of Excellence to drive transformation.
  • Real-world examples of how the Centres are helping NATO adapt to emerging challenges.

Whether you’re new to NATO or looking to better understand how the Alliance develops expertise and innovation, this episode offers a behind-the-scenes look at one of NATO’s most unique and effective networks.
