Generative AI (GenAI) is rapidly transforming how we create and interact with content. Since the release of ChatGPT in 2022, field has expanded rapidly, with sophisticated models can generate not only coherent text but also image, music, video and complex codes. Despite concerns about misuse, it has become widely adopted across sectors, influencing how information is produced, shared, and analysed.
This article explores that GenAI can become a critical enabler of rapid and adaptive decision-making, helping NATO achieve and sustain decision advantage in high-tempo operational environments by aligning its capabilities with the OODA loop and examining enablers through the DOTMLPFI framework. While each of these areas could independently form the basis of dedicated studies and projects, this article provides a clear and accessible overview of how GenAI can support better and faster decision-making within NATO, offering a shared understanding for all levels of authority and informing future, more targeted applications.
